This tours will be conducted each year between April and October, autumn to spring and during the winter months in Namibia.
Guided self-drive, camping safari travelling from Windhoek to Aus and through the Namib Desert along the Atlantic Coast to Walvis Bay.

On this tour you will be able to go fishing from the shore or just enjoy the pristine and lonely beaches. View the birdlife, Cape fur seals and jackals roaming the dunes. Again we camp under the African sky.
Please take note that we can book a hotel our guesthouse for you in advance. This is not part of the tour though.
It is also possible to add on a tour from here to the north of Namibia. See at the end of this description.
NB:This safari is to be regarded as an adventure trip. The company reserves the right to make changes or adjustments to the program according to weather conditions or should there be problems with one or more of the vehicles or the condition of the road.
Spend two days in one of the coastal towns Walvis Bay and/or Swakopmund and enjoy the great variety of outdoor activities. Thereafter travel north via Henties Bay to Cape Cross from where you head east past the Messum Crater to the Goboseb mountains. Here you will meet local prospectors looking for gemstones such as Amethyst, Prenite and Smokey Quarts. From here we travel in a northerly direction through the ephemeral rivers Ugab to the Huab where desert elephant are frequently sighted. At Twyfelfontein you will camp at Camp Xaragu. From Khorixas you travel back to Windhoek and spend the last night in a hotel or guesthouse.
This tour may be altered according to your wishes. It is possible to include Kaokoland, Caprivi, Khaudom or Etosha.

The massive baobab tree is known as the tree of life and one of the oldest trees on earth. This eventful tour will kick off with a visit to a Namibian guest farm after which we travel north to the remote Khaudum National
Park where we camp under the stars amongst wild animals and where sometimes 3000 elephants roam the area. After this we experience the total opposite vegetation and landscape of the evergreen Caprivi-Strip. One of the
highlights at the end of this tour will be a three day hike amongst the red dunes of the Namib Desert.
Arrive at the international airport Hosea Kutako. Meet and greet by one of our representatives, travel to Windhoek +-50km. Check in at Villa Violet situated in the pretty suburb of Klein Windhoek. The en-suite rooms have doors leading onto a patio and a grassy central area. There is a small pool for your enjoyment and the rooms are fitted with air-conditioner, flat screen TV and a safe. Wireless internet, secure parking and laundry service is available. The guesthouse is in close proximity to restaurants and shops and a short drive from the city center.
In the afternoon we will do a tour of Windhoek.

We travel north past Okahandja, Otjiwarongo, Otavi, the corn triangle of Namibia to Farm Friedrichstal belonging to family Gärtner, near Grootfontein. The farm measures about 5500 hectares and has abundant wildlife. You may see Eland, the tiny Dik-Dik antelope, Kudu, Duiker and Giraffe. In the afternoon we take a drive over the farmland looking for animals. The following two days are spent on the farm and in the vicinity. Visit the lakes Otjikoto and/or Guineas, the museum in Tsumeb or the San, bushmen on the neighboring farm. Another phenomenon worth seeing in this area near Grootfontein is the Hoba Meteorite. It weighs 60 tons and is the largest meteorite worldwide.

The following 4 days will be adventurous and we will spend the nights camping under the beautiful African sky. The Khaudum National Park measuring 4000km² is situated in the remote north-eastern Kavango region. This park is rarely visited, extremely wild and with only a rudimentary tourist infrastructure. The landscape is mainly Kalahari sandveld with omurambas (fossil drainage lines) which act as ideal routes for wildlife. There are however also thick forests and plains which makes the landscape varied and extremely interesting. Abundant wildlife such as elephant, Roan antelope, Eland, Tsessebe, Lion and African wild dog are just some of the species you may encounter here and there are over 320 bird species.

After breakfast we travel to Mahangu Lodge near Divundu in the Kavango region where the rural life is still very traditional. The lodge offers 18 bungalows and 6 Safari Tents as well as campsites next to the Okavango river. Activities offered here are tiger and bream fishing as well as game drives to the nearby National Parks and spectacular bird viewing.

We return to Farm Friedrichstal near Otavi. Spend the afternoon at leisure.

We return to Windhoek. Haus Sonneneck with beautiful lush gardens and a swimming pool, is situated amongst the Eros mountains. The center of town is a five minute drive away and yet you will experience peace and tranquility at this guesthouse. Each room has a private little patio with garden furniture where you may enjoy viewing the many birds that come to the garden. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with all amenities. In the evening you will have dinner at one of the restaurants in town.

Tok Tokkie Trails: Arrive before 14:00 at the Tok Tokkie Farmhouse where you will meet your guide. The journey from Sesriem takes +-90 minutes. Your luggage will be transported for you to the overnight location by a back-up team. You start hiking straight away carrying only a day-pack and water and reach the first overnight “camp” where a three course dinner will be served. Enjoy the beauty and absolute tranquility, relax with a sundowner and fall asleep under a billion stars.
After breakfast you carry on hiking and the guide will explain the secrets of the Namib that can only be experienced on foot. You may encounter barking geckos, dancing spiders or beetles, bat-eared foxes and many more. After lunchtime, relax and later when it is cooler carry on hiking to the second camp. On the next day you have breakfast and do an easy hike back to the farmhouse. Arrival here at +-10:30.
Please remember to bring a hat, good hiking shoes, sunscreen and a camera.

We return to Windhoek. River Crossing Lodge is situated about 3km from town at the Auas mountains on a 6000 hectare farm close to the B6 which leads to the airport. This is the perfect stop for your start or end of a safari.

We at Hippo Adventure Tours book all accommodation, cars, organize the food. Pick up at the international airport Hosea Kutako and drive to the car rental company where excess and insurance needs to be paid before embarking on the journey. Our recommendation is, to also take out windscreen and tyre insurance at the car rental company. Please make sure drivers have international drivers licences. Thereafter all cars are equipped with radios for communication. Drinks and fuel are not included in the tour price. We will stop at a supermarket to shop for drinks and personal items. Hippo will only rent a car on a daily basis which will be included in the price. ??????? Please, together with your guide, make sure that all is in order regarding the vehicle hire. All vehicles are fully equipped with camping equipment and roof tents. We advise two guests per car. A family of four is also in order. In this case, 2 roof tents on one car. A well experienced off road driving expert will give a proper explanation on how to drive on gravel roads.
The guide car with an experienced and well trained guide will take the lead, all guests will follow within the speed limit. The idea is to give clients the opportunity to drive their own car but with an experienced and knowledgeable guide taking the lead. Easy to more difficult roads will be part of these tours, partly camping, adventurous wild camping and lodging. The guide car is also fully equipped with a satellite telephone in case of an emergency. All cars have fridges to keep drinks cold. All food will be transported in the guide car. All guests are requested to help with cooking, setting up camp and washing up. Enjoy!
